I can't imagine life without rhythm and harmony and someone singing exactly what I'm feeling. We're connected and I crave each one of our expressions. I'm fascinated by people and inspired by nature and color. Flowers are such a gift. I love that the ground has seeds ready to sprout and bring us color and elegant form. I could study a flower for days. I could study a face for days. I feel a great connection to any detail that is given attention.
I love photography. I love to capture a mood, a place, an expression or interaction. I prefer to photograph strangers or people that don't realize I'm focusing on them: a mother and child walking into the grocery store talking, friends walking through a park, people dancing or sitting on a bench waiting for a bus. Capturing natural moments brings me joy. I want to give these moments as gifts, to let someone know that she was noticed and appreciated.
One afternoon, I walked out to my backyard porch. I sat on the steps and tried to calm a feeling that something was wrong. My sweet peas were growing up the chain link fence and I focused in on one pink blossom. I focused on the subtle color changes, the delicate veins running through the petals and the folds. The mood that brought me to the porch lifted and I felt inspired. Any time I really look at something, this same gift of seeing and being alive, is delivered. This is why I pay attention, why I paint and carry a camera. I hope that, like the music I appreciate, my work can speak to what you are feeling ~on occasion!
I graduated from Jefferson Sr. High School in 1995. My twin sister, Jessie, and I moved to Sandpoint, Idaho after graduation. We worked and played for one season at Schweitzer Mountain Resort before returning to Minnesota for the 1996-97 school year at Bemidji State University. I transferred to North Idaho College, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 1997. At N.I.C. I received a full scholarship as a photo editor on the school paper, The Sentinel. I enjoyed journalism assignments that allowed me to attend functions I wouldn't otherwise consider. Being accepted, in a situation, because I am there to represent the cause or gathering --is a role that I looked forward to.
I graduated from NIC in 1999 with my AA in communications and moved to Bozeman, Montana where I met my husband, Travis. I returned to Minnesota once again, to attend St. Cloud State University and received my BA in Fine Arts and communication in 2002. I've been in Butte, Montana since May of 2002. Travis and I married in 2003. We have two children and I have been a full-time mother since 2005. I paint and photograph this beautiful area daily.
My work has been displayed at the: The Butte Brewing Company, Headframe Spirits, Clark Chateau, The Waterford on Elizabeth Warren, Javasu/Frame Galarie, Herberger's, the Summer Art Walks, Jade Hair Salon and Spa, The Venus Rising, Hennessy Market, The Hummingbird Cafe, The Carle Gallery, The Main Stope Gallery, Sum of 6 Gallery in Coeur d'Alene, NIC President's permanent collection and I have work regularly at The Peculiar Painter in Walker, Minnesota.
